Enalees launches the Astéria Feline Coronavirus kit for coronavirus diagnosis in cats

17 October 2024 – The Genopole company Enalees, a leader in veterinary molecular diagnostics, announced today the launch of their new Astéria Feline Coronavirus kit for the rapid and accurate diagnosis of coronaviruses in cats.
Download the press release >

Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is a frequent viral infection in cats. It generally exists in a subclinical “enteric” state, but it can also mutate into a pathological state causing feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a potentially fatal disease if left untreated. Despite FCoV’s prevalence, its early and accurate detection remains a challenge for many veterinarians.
The Astéria Feline Coronavirus kit was developed to address that issue by offering a reliable and effective tool to detect FCoV in the presence of suggestive signs or symptoms. The kit enables the detection of the enteric or muted, PIF-causing version of FCoV in either blood or effusion fluid.

Easy to use and rapid results

The Astéria Feline Coronavirus test uses reverse-transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) technology to accurately diagnose infection with FCoV in only 40 minutes. The interest of the test is to fluidify the clinical course, enabling a more rapid deployment of pertinent treatments, and isolation if necessary, for the cat. All parties benefit from the test: the pet owner’s expectations are better addressed, the cat’s treatments are optimized, and the teams develop new competencies and pragmatic approaches.

Keeping with Enalees’s “real-world use” approach, Astéria Feline Coronavirus is an easy- and ready-to-use kit covering all steps from sample preparation through to amplification. Veterinarians can thus establish a diagnosis at their own clinic or even during house calls; there is no need to send samples to an exterior lab.

The launch of Astéria Feline Coronavirus is a new milestone in Enalees’s commitment to improving veterinary care.

CitationAlban Lacaze, Sales & Marketing Director: “We are proud to present Astéria® Feline Coronavirus, a product reflecting our engagement for innovation and quality. The new test gives veterinarians a complementary tool to improve the rapid diagnosis and management of viral infections in cats. We strongly believe that this kit will greatly improve clinical practice.

  • About Enalees

Enalees Enalees conceives, develops and produces rapid diagnostic tests based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification so that veterinarians can establish a diagnosis at their clinics or in the field (point-of-care diagnostics).
The company’s isothermal amplification approach maintains the benefits of PCR (sensitivity and specificity) and adds rapidity (results in about 30 minutes) and robustness. Enalees proposes two product ranges for diagnosing infectious diseases: Epona® for horses and Astéria® for dogs and cats. These ranges enable the early detection of more than 20 pathologies, including, for example, strangles, influenza, Rhodococcus infections and leptospirosis. In France, 90% of equine veterinary clinics are equipped with these solutions. All tests can be purchased through the Enalees Group (France, United Kingdom and Germany) and its network of distributors. Since its creation, Enalees develops its expertise in LAMP and lyophilization technologies.
Through investments, Enalees has increased its manufacturing capacity to more than a million tests per year, including the production of tests for its own animal health activities and that of custom-order tests for its partners. The company now counts 44 employees.
