GATEx supports the development of synthetic biology projects towards the industrial demonstrator phase.

GateX - BubulleGATEx, which stands for ‘Growth And TEst’, embodies the dual mission of this infrastructure:

  • Testing,
  • Optimising the scale-up of bioprocesses.

Thanks to the use of cutting-edge equipment, the production environment for micro-organisms, bacteria and yeast, will be improved according to the following process:

chaine de valeurs - GATEx
Who is GATEx for?

Managed by the Genopole team, GATEx is an infrastructure for researchers, start-ups and manufacturers looking to optimise their pre-industrialisation of fermentation and biomanufacturing bioprocesses.

Whether in the bioeconomy, food, cosmetics or healthcare sectors, GATEx makes the transition from laboratory to pilot production, with capacities of up to 20 litres.

GATEx‘s main services

  1. GateX - BubulleScale-up of bioprocesses – From small-scale screening to pilot production (up to 20 L).
  2. Process development and optimisation – Refining the fermentation process (strain, medium, substrate), optimising supports and adjusting parameters.
  3. High-throughput screening – Use of platforms for parallel testing.
  4. Analytical and quality control support – Ensuring the reproducibility and robustness of biomanufacturing.
  5. Expertise, consultancy and project engineering – Providing in-depth expertise in biomanufacturing and process scaling.

GATEx , a member of the Paris Biofonderie network

GATEx  is fully integrated into the Paris Biofonderie, a biofonderie distributed over 4 sites in the Paris region, made up of five entities: Sorbonne Université, INRAe, Institut Curie, Université Paris Cité and Genopole.

La Biofonderie de Paris associe plusieurs sites dans la région métropolitaine de Paris, apportant chacun leur expérience et expertise : Institu Curie, Institut Micalis, Sorbone Université Alliance et GenopoleThe 4 sites are :

  • The DNA and Microbes Biofoundry – This platform specialises in high-throughput DNA assembly and micro-organism engineering, with a particular focus on bacteria, yeast and microalgae.
  • Mammalian Biofoundry – This platform is dedicated to the engineering of mammalian cell lines and phenotyping for medical and research purposes.
  • Acellular Biofoundry – This platform carries out cell-free experiments and develops software solutions to support all projects.
  • GATEx – The pre-industrial Biofoundry, designed to validate the screening of strains (aerobic bacteria and yeasts) and substrates, and to demonstrate the industrial viability of academic projects and start-ups in the bioeconomy and health fields.

As a key interface, joining GATEx and Genopole means gaining access to a range of connections and pre-contractual agreements with industrial partners for large-scale biomanufacturing.
