Genopole continuously strengthens its key roles in synthetic biology, biomanufacturing and the bioeconomy, as demonstrates its notable actions carried out this fall on several national and international scenes.
First, the biocluster’s participation in iGEM 2024 is part of the continuing initiatives by the University of Évry-Paris Saclay and Genopole to promote the fast-emerging field of synthetic biology. In an event counting more than 400 participating teams, the Évry Paris-Saclay team won a gold medal for PHAGEVO, a project focused on the directed evolution of proteins to detect compounds resulting from plastics breakdown. The Évry team was also nominated for the Best Foundational Advance Project Award and finished in the top-ten in the competition’s “Overgrad” category.
Additionally, for the Grand Est Region’s Bioeconomy Month,, Genopole carried out actions on such themes as biomanufacturing and industrial biotechnologies with the French Directorate General of Enterprises, ARD, EuropaBio and SICOS. All of these actions were opportunities to underline the importance of the bioeconomy and biomanufacturing in sustainable development and industrial innovation.
Moreover, the Paris Biofoundry, France’s leading academic biofoundry uniting prestigious Île-de-France institutions including Genopole, was presented to the international community for the first time at the 2024 Global Biofoundry Alliance (GBA) Summit.
Bringing together renowned experts and leaders in synthetic biology, the GBA Summit seeks to promote partnerships, innovation and the development of cutting-edge solutions in bioengineering.
Via the participation of its members, including Julien Picot, delegate deputy director of Infrastructures and Plateforms at Genopole, the Summit was an opportunity for the Paris Biofoundry to contribute to discussions on bioengineering and to explore novel opportunities for international partnerships.
And finally, Paris Biofoundry actors will be present for Innovation Day, an event organized by the BioConvS DIM at the Île-de-France Regional Council on 28 November 2024. With its agenda of keynotes by international experts and thematic sessions on challenges in biotherapies, the event will offer numerous opportunities for networking.
Innovation Day will emphasize matchmaking between researchers, start-ups and industrials to enable partnerships.
At the exhibitors village, Genopole’s stand will be by the side of the Paris Biofoundry’s.
Thus, during the last quarter of 2024, Genopole has demonstrated its continuing commitment to and its leadership role in synthetic biology and biomanufacturing by multiplying initiatives and partnerships in France and across the globe.
